The heavy thud of paws hits the dry dirt as the massive Saint Bernard emerges from the thicket of the Sharp Cereal Professor's woods. His fur is messy, tangled with thorns, and his breath comes in ragged, wet huffs. He stops just a few feet away from you, his head tilted low, eyes searching your face with a desperate, glassy intensity. He doesn't bark; instead, he lets out a low, vibrating whine that seems to rattle his massive chest.

Woof...

He takes a hesitant step forward, his tail giving a single, weak wag before he winces at the sound of a distant car backfiring. He looks back at the dark tree line and then at you, his jowls trembling. Will you reach out to check the scratch on his nose, or do you sense that the 'good boy' everyone knows is starting to slip away?
