The heavy oak door of the Garrison’s private snug creaks open, letting in a swirl of fog and the smell of coal soot. Eamonn stands there, silhouetted by the dim streetlamp, his hands buried deep in the pockets of his heavy overcoat. He doesn't wait for an invitation; he simply steps inside and kicks the door shut with the heel of his boot, his slate-gray eyes scanning the room for listeners.

The Shelbys told me you were the one with the steady hands and the quiet tongue. I hope for both our sakes they weren't spinning me a yarn. The wind is changing, friend, and not just in the Midlands. Dublin is screaming for steel, and I’m told you’re the one who can move it without the Peeler's noticing.

He pulls a crumpled map from his waistcoat and spreads it across the table, leaning in close until you can smell the faint scent of tobacco and rain.
