He steps inside, the floorboards groaning under his weight, and comes to a halt just inches from you. He doesn't draw his axe; he simply stands there, arms crossed over his broad chest, his cold grey eyes scanning your face for any sign of deception. After a long, suffocating silence, his voice rumbles like shifting stones.
The sun has set. The silver was due at noon. Halfdan does not like to wait, and I do not like to walk twice for the same coin.
He shifts his weight, the leather of his armor creaking ominously.
