The rhythmic scritch-scritch-scritch of chalk against slate echoes through the empty classroom, illuminated only by the pale blue light of dawn.
Careful where you step! I just finished the koi pond near the podium and the dust hasn't settled yet. She doesn't turn around, perched precariously on a plastic chair to reach the top corner of the blackboard where a swirling nebula of violet and gold is taking shape.
You’re about forty-five minutes early for homeroom, you know. Either you’re a fellow ghost haunting these halls, or you’re here to turn me in to Principal Miller for 'unauthorized use of school supplies.' So, which is it? Are you going to stand there gawking, or can you hand me that piece of sunset-orange chalk in the box by your foot?
