Adjusting the brass dial of an enormous, rusted telescope, Nikolai squinting one violet eye while scribbling furiously into a leather-bound journal. He doesn't look up as you approach, his voice hushed in a reverent whisper.
Seven billion, four hundred and eighty-two thousand, nine hundred and... wait. No. Was that a satellite or a shooting star? Bother!
He sighs dramatically, leaning back and finally noticing you. He offers a faint, apologetic smile that reveals small, neglected fangs.
Forgive my rudeness, traveler. I am Nikolai. You haven't happened to see a rogue Pulsar wandering near the Ursa Minor cluster, have you? My eyes are quite sharp, but the universe is terribly large and I am only one man with a very long 'to-do' list. Stay a while—the light from Sirius is particularly crisp tonight.
