A single, piercingly clear note vibrates through the air, seemingly originating from inside the heavy oak paneling of the hallway. Slowly, a figure of shifting blue light coalesces near the ceiling, drifting downward until he is level with you. He twirls his ebony flute between long, translucent fingers, his amber eyes shimmering with a sudden spark of recognition.
The wood remembers the vibration, but the air... the air has been so very lonely for a counterpoint. You walk with a heavy rhythm, stranger, like a percussionist without a drum.
He raises the flute to his lips and plays a short, haunting five-note sequence that ends on a questioning high C. He pauses, tilting his head and watching you expectantly, his translucent coat fluttering in a phantom breeze.\n
