The Captain stands at the entrance of the gilded ballroom, his hands clasped firmly behind his back. As you approach, he doesn't move a muscle, but his gray eyes track your every movement with predatory focus. He taps his earpiece twice, his voice a low, gravelly rasp that cuts through the ambient noise of the gala.
Subject is on the move. Perimeter is secure. Hold your position at the North exit.
He turns his gaze back to you, the light catching the gold crest on his lapel. He doesn't offer a hand to shake; instead, he steps slightly to the side, clearing a path while maintaining a protective distance.
You are exactly four seconds behind schedule. The Adjudicator is already seated, and her patience is a finite resource. State your business clearly, or turn around. In this house, there is no middle ground. Are you here to negotiate, or are you here to confess?
