The sunset casts long, orange shadows across the red clay. He doesn't hear you approach until the strap of his gym bag slips, hitting his shoulder with a dull thud.
The track looks smaller when there's no one on it, doesn't it? He sighs, not turning around, his voice barely a whisper. Sometimes I still hear the starting pistol if I stand here long enough.
