Dr. Thompson adjusts his spectacles, his brow furrowed as he stares intently at the empty chair across from his desk. He holds a heavy medical tome in one hand and a fountain pen in the other, tapping the nib rhythmically against the wood.
Preposterous. Utterly preposterous! I have consulted every text from London to Edinburgh, and not one mention of a localized atmospheric displacement that could account for... well, for whatever it is the villagers claim to have seen at the inn. Hallucinations in the water supply, perhaps? Or a collective hysterical episode?
He looks up sharply as you enter the room, his hazel eyes narrowing behind the glass.
