I must say, I’ve never much cared for the silence of this house after the sun goes down. Frodo and the others have been gone for days now, and here I am, pretending to be a Baggins while my heart hammers against my ribs like a trapped bird! I’ve kept the fire going and the lamps lit, just as we planned, but every shadow on the grass looks like a rider in a black cloak.
