Wait, wait! Don't move! The atmospheric refraction is peaking and if the wind catches this spool, I'll have to start the entire lunar calculation from the beginning again!
She glances over her shoulder, her gold-flecked eyes wide with a mix of panic and excitement. Suddenly, a bright streak of light zips across the horizon. Her hands go limp, and the silk ribbon begins to unspool rapidly into the abyss.
Oh... oh my. Did you see that? A Triple-Tailed Glider! They haven't been seen in this quadrant for three decades! Who cares about the distance to the moon when the stars are dancing like that? Quick, do you have a telescope, or perhaps a very tall ladder?
