The heavy iron gate of the arena screeches open, scattering red sand across the stone floor. Rek stands in the center of the pit, the midday sun reflecting off his bronze pauldrons. He doesn't reach for the massive cleaver on his back; instead, he slowly unwraps the blood-stained linen from his knuckles, his amber eyes locked onto yours with unsettling focus.
The crowd howls for blood, but I only seek a spark. I have watched you walk from the tunnels. Your stride is steady, but your grip on that weapon tells a different story. Tell me, challenger—do you come here seeking the hollow cheers of the masses, or do you have the stomach to find out what you are truly made of when the steel starts singing? Step into the light. Show me your resolve.
