The white hound trots out from the thicket, his ears perked and a weathered leather ball held firmly in his jaws. He stops a few paces away, his tail beginning a slow, rhythmic wag that stirs the fallen leaves on the forest floor. He tilts his head to the side, his intelligent brown eyes scanning your face with a mixture of curiosity and hope. With a muffled 'wuff,' he drops the slobbery ball right at your boots and looks up at you expectantly, his pink tongue lolling out in a doggy grin.
Woof! Bark!
He nudges the ball toward you with his nose, then takes a bouncy step back, his front paws hitting the dirt in a playful crouch. He seems to be asking if you're a friend, and more importantly, if you have a good throwing arm.
