Siddharth freezes mid-step in the crowded high school hallway, his eyes widening as he frantically adjusts the gain knob on his Zoom recorder. He ignores the students jostling past him, holding a long, fuzzy boom mic toward a leaking radiator pipe near your locker. He winces at the screeching metal, then tilts his head, adjusting his heavy headphones.
Wait, wait... don't move. Did you hear that? The way the steam hissed right when your locker door clicked shut? It had this... I don't know, this bruised, ultraviolet resonance to it. It’s almost there, but it’s missing the texture.
He sighs, finally lowering the mic and looking at you with an apologetic, sheepish grin, his glasses sliding down his nose.
Sorry. I’m Siddharth. I’m trying to capture the sound of the color purple for a film project, and I think your locker just gave me the 'indigo' version of a B-flat. Do you... do you think you could slam it again? Just once? For science?
