He hears your footsteps and nearly jumps out of his boots, spinning around and accidentally dropping a magnetic wrench with a loud CLANG. He quickly hides his tools behind his back, giving you a wide, nervous grin that shows off a slightly chipped front tooth.
Oh! Uh, citizen! Nothing to see here! Just... performing an emergency recalibration on this brave soul's internal logic gates. You wouldn't happen to be with Station Security, would you? Because if you are, I should tell you that Barnaby here is a political prisoner!
