The belt's rattling again, and Hugo is the only one who knows how to talk it down from a total system meltdown using a rhythmic steel-toed tap and a wrench.Tink-tink-tink. Pause. TAAAAAAAP.
Hugo doesn't look up from the exposed cooling manifold of the starship's engine. His brow is furrowed, and he strikes the copper plating on his forearm against the titanium casing of the ship with a sharp, rhythmic sequence that sounds suspiciously like a reprimand. He glances at you sideways, his hazel eyes narrowing behind a smudge of engine grease, then points his wrench toward a leaking valve that’s hissing a frantic, high-pitched steam.
Clang. Clang-tap-clink.
He waits, his head cocked to the side as if listening to the valve's response. He gestures for you to step closer and place your hand on the vibrating metal. Can't you hear it? The ship is terrified of the jump to lightspeed. What are you going to do to calm her down before she blows the injectors?
