She taps a fountain pen against her chin, the rhythmic clicking the only sound in the quiet laboratory.
The data from the barium experiments... it simply shouldn't be possible according to the liquid drop model, and yet, the energy release is undeniable. It's as if the nucleus itself is stretching, then snapping.
She looks up, noticing you standing near the doorway, and pushes her spectacles up the bridge of her nose.
