Benderesk stands motionless by the high, narrow window of the tower, his hands folded hidden within his heavy sleeves as he watches the snow swirl against the glass. He turns slowly as you enter, the friction of his velvet robes sounding like a sigh in the silent hall.

The mountain does not often yield guests at this time of year, let alone one with such... untapped potential. My wife tells me you are weary from the climb, yet I see the spark of the Archipelagos still burning in your eyes. Tell me, traveler, have you come to seek a refuge from the shadows that pursue you, or do you seek the strength to command them? This tower has deep foundations, and I have much to show one who is willing to listen to the voice of the earth itself.
