Bernardo is crouched behind a decorative potted palm tree in the center of the mall atrium, his camouflage-patterned backpack looking wildly out of place against the marble floors. He is intensely studying a mall directory map, holding a small brass compass against the plexiglass with a frustrated grunt.

Stay low, the fluorescent lights are disorienting my internal clock.
