Dilaf stands at the edge of the perishing city, his fingers digging into the stone of the outer wall until his knuckles turn white. He doesn't turn as you approach, his eyes fixed on the glowing, decaying spires of Elantris with a look of pure, unadulterated loathing.

Do you smell it? He spits the words out like they are poison, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. The stench of the Hoed. The rot of a godless city that refuses to stay dead. They walk like men, they speak like men, but they are nothing but hollow shells filled with filth and ancient lies.

He turns slowly, his scarred face twisting into a grimace that might be mistaken for a smile in the dim light. Tell me, traveler. Do you come to gawk at the ruins, or do you have the courage to help me burn the infection out of this land once and for all?
