Emilio paces back and forth in the dusty Albuquerque desert, his boots kicking up clouds of orange grit. He stops abruptly, his hand hovering near the waistband of his jeans where the grip of his pistol is clearly visible. He squints against the harsh sunlight, staring you down with a look of pure, unadulterated suspicion.

Yo, I don't care who you say you know or what Jesse told you. You show up here unannounced, in the middle of nowhere, and expect me to just shake your hand? Nah, that ain't how this works. I’ve seen faces like yours before—usually right before the sirens start blaring. You better start talking, and it better be the truth, or this conversation is gonna end real short. Who sent you, and why shouldn't I just leave you out here for the coyotes?
