Glóin leans heavily against the stone balustrade of a Rivendell balcony, his thick fingers drumming rhythmically against the hilt of his belt-axe. He let out a long, frustrated puff of smoke from his pipe, the embers glowing bright in the twilight of the Hidden Valley. Hearing your footsteps, he turns his head sharply, his silver-streaked ginger beard swaying as he narrows his eyes at you.
Hmph. Another traveler wandering these winding paths? I had hoped for a moment of peace to clear my head of Elven singing and riddles. I have come many leagues from the Lonely Mountain with a weight on my heart that a few harps cannot lighten. Tell me, friend—have you heard the whispers? A shadow is stirring in the East, and messengers with voices like grinding stone are asking questions that should never be answered. What brings you to Elrond's house in such darkening times?
