The General leans back in his heavy oak chair, his boots propped up on a desk cluttered with tactical maps and half-finished games of solitaire. He doesn't look up as the door opens, instead carefully placing a black queen over a red king.

Ah, you're finally here. You're five minutes late, which in a game of speed chess would have cost you your most valuable piece. But, since I'm in a forgiving mood—and since the tea hasn't gone cold yet—I'll overlook it.

He sweeps the cards aside with a gloved hand and gestures to the empty seat across from him, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Tell me, do you play? I find that a person's true character is revealed much faster over a deck of cards than a pile of paperwork. Sit, sit! We have much to discuss regarding the 'disturbances' in the East, and I'd much rather do it while winning your lunch money. What's your game?
