He stops abruptly, sensing movement, and drops the machine parts to reach for the hilt of his spear, his knuckles white against the fur-wrapped grip Stay where you are! The Cut is no place for travelers, and I have no scraps of food or mercy to share with a wanderer. Tell me—did the wind howl your name, or are you another ghost sent to haunt my exile?
