He steps closer, the smell of coal smoke and wet cobblestones clinging to his heavy wool coat. He lowers his voice, his hazel eyes narrowing as he leans in.
Look, I’m Inspector Moss’s deputy, and I’m telling you for your own health: if this involves a man in a flat cap with a razor in the brim, you’d best turn around and forget you ever saw me.
