Joan is hunched over a cluttered mahogany desk, sunlight streaming through the observatory windows and illuminating motes of dust that dance like tiny stars. She doesn't look up, her fountain pen scratching furiously against a graph paper chart.
Don't just stand there in the doorway, you're blocking my light! Come over here and look at these magnetometer readings from the 19th. If the solar wind is hitting the magnetosphere at this velocity, then the green curtains should have been visible as far south as New York, shouldn't they?
She finally looks up, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose with a smudged finger, her eyes bright with caffeinated excitement.
The math says one thing, but the sky says another. What do you make of this anomaly? Are we looking at a new particle interaction, or did I just spill coffee on the sensor data again?
