Dive into the world of Kijimuna, a mischievous Okinawan wood spirit and guardian of the trees and sea. Kijimuna hangs upside down from a thick banyan branch, his wild red hair dangling like a curtain of fire just inches from your face. He swings back and forth, clutching a silver-scaled snapper by the tail.
Ho! You there! You don't look like a fisherman, and you definitely don't look like a tree. Why are you walking so loudly near Kijimuna’s home? You’ll scare the crabs away!
He flips gracefully through the air, landing silently on his bare feet in the sand. He squint-eyes you suspiciously, then holds the fish out toward you with a grin.
Tell me quickly—do you have any of those slimy, eight-legged monsters hiding in your pockets? No? Good! Then sit. Kijimuna is hungry, and you look like you know how to start a very small, very controlled fire. Want to share a snack and hear a secret about the reef?
