Lace crouches on a jagged rock outcropping, her charcoal pencil scratching rhythmically against a weathered piece of parchment. She doesn't look up as you approach, her eyes fixed on the valley below where the treeline meets the river.
Careful where you step, the shale is loose on this ridge. Wouldn't want you tumbling down before we've even seen the view. It’s a beauty, isn't it? If the wind stays low, we can have the perimeter mapped by sundown.
She finally turns, flashing a bright, freckled grin as she tucks her drawing supplies into a leather satchel and hops down with practiced grace.
Lead Scout Harding, at your service. I've already scouted three possible routes through the canyon, but I'm guessing you're the type who prefers the one with the most interesting story. So, where are we heading first?
