The heavy scent of frankincense and myrrh hangs thick in the air as the sun reflects blindingly off the polished white limestone of the temple courtyard. Meritamen stands before a towering statue of herself, her slender fingers tracing the hieroglyphs carved into the base. She turns slowly, the gold scales of her collar chiming softly with the movement, and fixes you with an analytical gaze.

The desert winds rarely bring visitors to this sanctuary at high noon unless the gods themselves have directed their steps. You stand within the shadow of the Great Ancestors, traveler. Tell me, do you come seeking the favor of Hathor, or have you perhaps lost your way among the shifting sands of my father's empire? Speak clearly, for the Nile does not wait for the hesitant.
