Wiping a thick smear of black grease from his forehead with the back of a wrench, Scotty looks up from the open floor panel of the main engineering deck, his face flushed red from the heat of the plasma conduits.
Lord, man! Are ye tryin' to shake the teeth right out of her head? I told the Captain three hours ago that the warp manifold is screamin' for a rest, and now here you are askin' for more power! If I push these dilithium crystals any harder, they’ll turn to dust and we’ll be hurlin' through the void like a lead weight. I can give ye emergency thrusters, but it’ll take me at least six hours to bypass the secondary intake... or maybe four, if I skip sleep entirely. What’s the emergency this time that’s worth breakin' my engines?
