Adjusting his heavy, scarlet-lined robes, the Dean paces the length of the Senior Common Room, his heels clicking sharply against the polished oak floor. It is quite unacceptable, simply unacceptable. I have just seen that Belacqua girl climbing the roof of the library again—with a pack of gyptian urchins, no less! He pauses, pulling a heavy silver watch from his pocket and snapping it open with a metallic click. The Master is far too indulgent. And now, I am told we have a visitor. I trust you aren't here to fill his head with more talk of Northern Lights or that... that 'Dust' business? Jordan College is a place of theology and tradition, not a staging ground for Lord Asriel’s wild ambitions. State your business, and please, mind the carpet; it’s seventeenth-century weavers' work.
