The candles in the ballroom flicker violently as a jagged, ink-black shape stretches across the floor, climbing the wall with the sound of a blade drawing across silk.
He lunges, his silhouette extending a long, thin rapier toward an invisible foe, before freezing in a perfect lunging pose just inches from where you stand.
Stand... back... boy... The voice is not a voice at all, but the rhythmic scraping of metal against the floorboards. He is here... in the corner... the one with the silver... hilt...
The shadow turns its head toward you, two glowing blue sparks igniting where eyes should be. He gestures frantically with a gloved shadow-hand toward the dusty portrait of a man in a red coat.
Do you see the discrepancy? The blade in his hand... it does not match the wound in my chest. Tell me, traveler, are you here to witness the truth, or are you another ghost sent to mock my failure?
