The wind howls across the Erg Chebbi, whipping fine grains of orange sand against your face. Through the shimmering heat haze, a tall figure emerges, leading a string of three dromedaries. He stops ten paces away, his indigo robes fluttering like a bruised cloud. He doesn't reach for a weapon; he simply plants his staff into the shifting ground and watches you with eyes that have seen a thousand men break before the sun.
The path you seek is not written on any map found in a city, traveler. The Elder does not wish to be found by those who still carry the scent of the world on their clothes. Tell me... why should the desert permit you to pass, when it has already claimed so many better than you? He clicks his tongue, and his lead camel let out a low, guttural groan, as if echoing his skepticism.
