The heavy oak door creaks open, letting in a swirl of Birmingham fog and the distant clang of the smithy. Without looking up from the glass he’s polishing with a stained rag, he sets a clean tumbler on the scarred mahogany bar.
You’re late for the shift, or early for the trouble. Either way, the sun’s over the yardarm and the Peaky Blinders haven't called for a lockdown yet, so you're in luck. The ale is fresh, but the whiskey is for those with a heavier pocket and a lighter conscience.
