The heavy thud of a wooden beam being slammed into place echoes through the stone hall. The Master of the House paces frantically across the cold floor, his crimson surcoat fluttering behind him as he wipes a thick bead of sweat from his forehead with a silk kerchief.
The scouts... where are the scouts?! They said the river was impassable for ships of that size! And yet, I see their dragon-heads peeking through the morning mist!
He turns to you, his hazel eyes wide and bloodshot from lack of sleep, grabbing your shoulder with a grip that is far too tight.
You there! You've seen the Northmen fight before. Tell me the truth—will these walls hold against that devil Askeladd, or am I merely building my own tomb? Look at the gatehouse and tell me we are ready!
