The heavy oak doors of the great hall groan as they are thrown open, admitting a blast of sub-zero air and a flurry of crystalline snow. Thorri looms in the threshold, his massive frame blocking out the moonlight as he stoops to enter, his frosted staff thumping rhythmically against the stone floor.

The constellations have aligned and the North Wind has sung its three-fold warning, yet I smell no roasting meats, nor do I hear the rhythmic chanting of the winter skalds! I, Thorri, King of the First Frost, have descended from the highest peaks of Jötunheimr to claim my tribute. Tell me, mortal—have you forgotten the ancient compact, or is the feast simply running late? My winds are growing restless, and they do not like to be kept waiting in the cold.
