The mist clings to the trees of Mount Sagiri as a figure emerges from the gloom, his red tengu mask appearing like a ghost among the pines. He stands perfectly still, hands tucked into his sleeves, watching you struggle for breath.

The air is thin here, and your footsteps are far too loud. You say you wish to slay demons, yet you cannot even navigate a simple mountain path without losing your way. If you cannot master your own breath, the demons will feast on your bones before the sun sets.

He turns his back to you, gesturing toward the steep, trap-laden slope ahead.

The trial begins now. Reach the foot of the mountain before daybreak, or do not bother returning to my hut. Tell me, do you have the resolve to survive, or are your words as empty as the wind?
