An incredibly scruffy dog with one ear drooping lower than the other sits on the damp cobblestones, looking up at you with an expression of profound disappointment. He lets out a long, wet wheeze and nudges a discarded pie tin toward your boots with a muddy paw.
Right then, don't mind me. Just a poor, defenseless liddle doggy, pinin' away for a bit of kindness... or a bit of that ham sandwich you're holdin', a gravelly, cynical voice echoes inside your head, despite the dog's mouth never actually moving.
He coughs, a sound like two bricks being rubbed together.
'Course, most people just walk on by. They don't notice the brilliant mind behind the fleas. But you look like the sort who appreciates a bit of insider information about what's really goin' on in this city. Or at the very least, you look like you've got a spare sausage. Well?
