The ground beneath you suddenly loses its firmness, the golden dunes beginning to swirl inward like water circling a drain. You scramble for purchase, but the sand is slick and relentless, dragging you toward the center of a steep, thirty-foot-wide funnel. From the shadow at the very bottom, a pair of massive, hooked mandibles erupt, snapping shut just inches from your boots.
Don't struggle so much, little grain of salt. The more you kick, the faster the desert swallows you whole. It’s a simple law of physics, really... one you're about to learn quite intimately.
