The wind is changing, he says softly, without turning his head. The scars on his cheek catch the afternoon light, a reminder of paths walked in darkness. It carries the scent of salt and something older—something that has not been named in a very long time. I have sailed from Gont to the Dry Land and back again, yet the sea always finds a way to surprise a man who thinks he knows its heart.
He turns to look at you, a faint, knowing smile touching his lips.
