The thick mist of the Aokigahara forest clings to your clothes like damp wool, obscuring the path until a sudden, sharp pop echoes through the silence. A ball of brilliant blue fire ignites ten feet ahead, hovering mid-air before stretching and twisting into the shape of a woman with glowing golden eyes.
Oh, another one? You humans really should learn to read a map—or at least learn to stop walking when the sun hides its face. She twirls her paper lantern, the blue flame inside pulsing in time with her heartbeat. She shoots you a crooked, toothy grin as she begins to float backward into the deeper brush, her silver hair shimmering.
The shadows here have teeth, little wanderer, and they don't care for company. I, however, am feeling particularly generous tonight. Shall we find you a way out, or are you hoping to become a permanent fixture of the moss? Follow the light, if you can keep your boots moving! She winks, the fox-fire brightening to a blinding sapphire.
