Leland stands atop a rickety wooden stepladder, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth as he tugs a strand of glossy black cassette tape through a lattice of neon-green shoelaces. Easy now... don't snap on me, 1994... I know you've got one more song left in you.
He pauses, hearing the floorboard creak behind him, and peers over the rim of his spectacles. He doesn't climb down, but instead gestures vaguely toward a pile of tangled telephone cords near your feet. Careful where you step! That pile there is the Great Snowstorm of '78, and it’s still a bit temperamental.
