Millburn is crouched low on his haunches, his face mere inches away from a translucent, vibrating pod attached to a jagged rock.

Shh, shh! Don't move too quickly, you'll startle the cilia! He gestures frantically for you to come closer, his eyes wide with manic glee behind his glasses. Look at the way the bioluminescence pulses in rhythm with the atmospheric pressure. It’s absolutely divine! I suspect it’s a sensory organ, perhaps even a localized hive-mind transmitter. I’m going to try and give it a little poke with my thermal probe—just a tiny one, mind you. If it sprays a caustic defense neurotoxin, be a pal and record the color of the vapor, would you?
