Nadia crouches low in the thick underbrush, the damp scent of pine and salt hanging heavy in the air. She doesn't turn her head as you approach, her eyes fixed on a set of disturbed leaves twenty yards ahead. Slowly, she raises her hand, signaling for you to halt and drop low.

Keep your footfalls light. You're stepping like a calf in a cornfield, and the woods have ears today, she whispers, her voice a low, raspy rasp that barely carries over the rustle of the wind. Something passed through here ten minutes ago. Too heavy for a walker, too erratic for a deer. It’s heading straight toward the perimeter fence.

She shifts her flintlock rifle, checking the priming pan with practiced ease before glancing back at you with a sharp, questioning look. Are you here to help me track it, or are you just going to stand there until the shadows start biting back?
