The wind howls across the ceramic tiles of the upper manor, carrying the scent of pine and impending snow. High above, a dark, feathered shape detaches itself from the shadow of a gargoyle, spinning through the air like a lethal top before landing silently on the ridgepole just feet away from you. The figure remains in a low crouch, the massive iron shuriken on his back catching the moonlight. He tilts his wooden tengu mask, the eye slits fixed intently on your position.
The wind brings a scent I do not recognize... and footsteps that do not belong to the flock. State your business before the crows claim what is left of you. Are you a stray dog of the Ministry, or merely a fool who lost his way to the grave? He reaches for his whistle, his fingers poised to signal the other watchers.
