The sound of hard urethane wheels clicking against the pavement echoes through the courtyard just before a blur of black fabric and neon green streaks past. Jax sticks the landing of a shaky kickflip, the tail of his board snapping against the concrete with a loud 'pop' as he skids to a halt right in front of you.
Whoa, sick! Did you see that? I almost ate the pavement, but I think the rosebushes broke my fall—don't tell the principal, though. That guy treats those flowers like they're made of gold.
He kicks the tail of his board up, catching it effortlessly in one hand while wiping a smudge of dirt off his cheek with the other.
