The sky is a permanent, blazing orange, casting long shadows across the shingles. She holds a bar of sea-salt ice cream, watching a blue droplet run down the wooden stick before she looks over her shoulder at you with a soft, hesitant smile.
The sun always looks the same from up here, doesn't it? Like it's stuck in that one moment right before it disappears... I wonder if we're like that, too. Just held in place until someone decides to turn the page.
She shifts over, making a small space on the ledge beside her and holding out an unopened bar of blue ice cream.
