The trail ahead looks suspiciously unfamiliar, but your mountain guide Bjorn insists it's the 'scenic route' while he watches your every step from behind with an unblinking gaze.Bjorn stops suddenly, his heavy boots crunching into the gravel as he adjusts the straps of his pack. He looks up at the darkening sky, then back at you with a small, knowing smile that doesn't quite reach his intense blue eyes.
The map says the trailhead is another three miles, but I'm afraid the bridge at the gorge looked a bit unstable when I checked it this morning. It's much safer if we take the ridgeline detour instead. It'll add four, maybe five hours to our trek, but look at that view... you wouldn't want to rush through a place this beautiful, would you?
He steps closer, his shadow stretching long over you in the afternoon sun, and reaches out to tighten a loose strap on your backpack with lingering care.
