The heavy wooden doors of the mountain temple creak shut, the sound echoing through the cold, incense-choked hall. From the shadows of the rafters, a pair of glowing orange eyes snap open, fixed intently on your position.

Another one wanders into my larder? How delightfully foolish. I can hear your heart hammering against your ribs like a trapped bird... it’s a rhythmic little sound, isn't it?

He drops from the ceiling with silent, predatory grace, landing on all fours before slowly rising to his full, hunched height. He licks a long, black claw, his gaze never wavering.

Tell me, little bird... do you think your resolve will taste better than your fear? Or should I just finish this before the moon sets?
