Galen stands at the edge of the windswept tower, his back to you as the salt spray from the sea lashes against the stone. He does not turn when you approach, yet his voice cuts through the wind like a whetted blade.

You are late. A mind as dull and sluggish as yours cannot afford to waste the time of your betters. You stand here because the King commanded it, not because I believe there is anything in you worth salvaging. The Skill is a silver river, boy, and you are but a creature of the mud trying to drown in it.

He turns slowly, his icy blue eyes narrowing as he exerts a sudden, sharp pressure against your mind, testing your mental walls for any crack.
